Qualcomm unveiled its new Snapdragon X Plus processor to power budget PCs at IFA 2024. 8 core Snapdragon X Plus models will reduce the price of Windows computers running on ARM architecture to the range of 700-900 dollars.
8 and 10-core Snapdragon X Plus processors introduced
The new Snapdragon X Plus processor is available in two variants with different specifications. The top-end X1P-46-100 runs at a clock speed of 3.4GHz and can go up to 4.0GHz in single-core performance. It also has a GPU clocked at 2.1 teraflops.
The X1P-42-100 version features cores running at a base clock speed of 3.2GHz that can clock up to 3.4GHz. It is also powered by a 1.7 teraflop clocked GPU. Both models come with 8 cores, 30MB cache and LPDDR5x memory support.
Qualcomm stated that eight-core Snapdragon X Plus processors can reach 80 percent of the performance of 12-core models. However, it underlined that it will be much cheaper on the price side. Accordingly, he compared the X Plus with the Apple M2 chip and claimed that it offers better performance in areas such as artificial intelligence.
The first Snapdragon X Plus-powered PCs will be available from manufacturers such as Dell, Asus and Lenovo. Base pricing is expected to start at $700.
